Gwendolyn Brooks (1917 Topeka - 2000 Chicago), autrice et enseignante, est l'une des poètesses américaines les plus lues et influentes du XXe siècle. Première femme afro-américaine à recevoir le prix Pulitzer de poésie en 1950 et à occuper le poste de consultante en poésie auprès de la Bibliothèque du Congrès, elle reçut de nombreux autres prix en reconnaissance de son oeuvre. We Real Cool, paru en 1960 dans "The Bean Eaters", est fréquemment étudié en classe et est considéré comme un des meilleurs exemples de poésie jazz.
Ce livre d'artiste est une création graphique de Carole Texier. Michael Caine l'a composé en caractères Magister et Narciso romain au plomb mobile. Il en a réalisé l'impression typographique ainsi que celle des linogravures. Celle des gravures au burin a été confiée à Matthieu Perramant aux Ateliers Moret Manonviller et la reliure à l'Atelier Dreieck.
De cette édition ont été tirés sur papier Hahnemüle 300 g 25 exemplaires signés dont 4 exemplaires de tête mis en coffret et enrichis d'une plaque de cuivre gravée au burin, issue du livre, et de son estampe réhaussée.
Un feuillet lexique, proposant une traduction de chaque mot du texte, est inséré dans chacun des livres.

This artist's book is a graphic creation by Carole Texier. Michael Caine designed it in Magister and Roman Narciso movable lead type. He did the letterpress printing as well as the one of the linocuts. Matthieu Perramant at Ateliers Moret Manonviller was responsible for the burin engravings and Atelier Dreieck for the binding.
25 signed copies of this edition have been printed on 300g Hahnemüle paper, including 4 deluxe copies in a slipcase and enhanced with a copper plate engraved with a burin from the book and its enhanced print.
